The Lady Tigers will look to prevent Georgia from getting revenge on Sunday.
LSU (8-16, 2-9 Southeastern Conference) defeated the Lady Bulldogs (18-6, 6-5 SEC) on Jan. 24, 53-46 in Stegeman Coliseum.
Despite the road win, the Lady Tigers remain focused on giving 100 percent.
“We definitely have to be prepared,” said senior Akilah Bethel. “When you beat a team, they are going to come in here looking for redemption.”
Since last meeting, LSU and Georgia have headed in opposite directions.
The Lady Tigers dropped four-straight games while Georgia has rattled off Four wins since then their bout with LSU.
The key in the Lady Bulldogs reversal of fortune has been its stingy defense, which allows the fewest points in the SEC and has allowed under 50 points per game in their last six.
LSU has also excelled defensively for the season, ranking 5th in scoring defense in the SEC, but has struggled to score. LSU has struggled defensively in the last couple of games.
In the last two games, the Lady Tigers have given up 70 to Kentucky and 71 to Mississippi State. In the previous 22 games, LSU allowed more than 70 points just once.
In the Lady Tiger’s most recent outing, a road loss to No. 18 Kentucky on Feb. 7, LSU trailed the entire game. In the Jan. 24 win over Georgia, the Lady Tigers led the entire game.
Junior Forward Alexis Hyder will try and build off of a career-high 15 rebounds, along with 16 points, against the Wildcats. Junior Guard Rina Hill, who led all scorers with 14 against Georgia, totaled 16 points in the road loss to Kentucky.
Hyder said the bye week from the Kentucky game has been a blessing for the injury depleted roster.
“This week has been great for our bodies, considering our low numbers,” Hyder said “This has given us time to identify the reasons why we are losing. We have been losing because of missed layups, free throws, transition defense, offensive boards.”
Although the Lady Tigers have hit a rough spot, LSU coach Nikki Fargas said the team has come together.
“I know that there is a lot of adversity surrounding this team, but what they’ve shown is the ability to stay together,” Fargas said. “Even in the midst of the storm, they all come back every day to work hard. They’re all coming back for one common goal, and that’s for each other.”
