I would like to respond to Mr. Abad’s February 1 letter concerning students at the LSU vs. Oklahoma basketball game. I was sitting on one of the benches by Mike’s habitat Saturday afternoon waiting for the PMAC to open and had a bird’s eye view of the crowds on the ramps. The only thing I saw and heard were students shouting “LSU!…LSU!” and occasionally “tiger bait.” I’m glad they were so enthusiastic. As a student, I used to yell the same things and don’t think anyone should be chided for showing some spirit. Did Mr. Abad really expect students to just stand there quietly during the biggest game of the year? I never saw anyone get “out of line,” and the only people I noticed with alcohol were a few non-students walking by Mike’s habitat. I actually thought the students on the ramps were pretty well behaved…definitely excited to be there as I was too…but well behaved.
I hadn’t been to a basketball game in a number of years and was pleasantly surprised to see the student section showing a lot of enthusiasm without the vulgarity we’ve seen at football games. I was only sitting only one section away from the student section at Saturday’s game and enjoyed watching the students cheering for the team! Good for you student section….keep up the good work.
