With most polls showing Republican candidate Donald Trump winning by double digits, the GOP establishment is about to crumble under the weight of a monster it failed to take seriously, and the only Republican capable of saving the soon-to-be hysterical party is former Gov. Mitt Romney.
Unfortunately, after Trump dominates his competition Tuesday, Romney cannot gain enough delegates for a late entrance and win the Republican nomination, but he still has a shot as an Independent candidate.
Maybe this is just a political moderate’s dream to bring Romney back for round three, but a logical thinking, literate, semi-normal person can hope, can’t he?
Bernie Sanders does not have a shot at victory for the Democrats, nor do I want him to, and Hillary Clinton is shadier than an oak tree on campus. Aggregated polls show Clinton beating Trump on the national stage, but the pollsters have been wrong before, and I am not willing to take the chance on a man who needs to do “research” on David Duke before dismissing his endorsement.
So who could defeat Trump by either siphoning enough votes away for him to lose to the Democratic nominee or possibly win the election for himself?
Mitt can.
Romney has the financial resources to blow all of the GOP candidates out of the water. As an independent, Romney would gain all of the support from members of the Republican Party who realize their political establishment, as Sen. Lindsey Graham put it, is going “batsh*t crazy.”
Here is how Mitt could win: run as an independent, convince the Republican Party to abandon their nominee financially and politically, gain the support of all the previous GOP nominees (except Christie) and take some conservative Democrats in the South with him.
Trump’s inconsistent statements, financial troubles, which he seems to want to hide, and his hate speech will destroy our political system, and there is no way on God’s green Earth the founding fathers of our country would want this political heretic on an American throne.
