Ding dong, the witch is dead.
On the Feb. 8 episode of “The Bachelor,” Olivia Caridi, one of the worst contestants to ever grace the show’s mansion, was finally sent packing.
The 20th season of ABC’s “The Bachelor” began on Jan. 4 with 28 contestants vying for the love of bachelor Ben Higgins, a software salesman from Warsaw, Indiana. Six women now remain in the quest for his heart. Luckily, Caridi isn’t one of them.
On the first episode, the contestant received the first impression rose. Along with Higgins, viewers quickly pegged her as one of the show’s frontrunners. Many speculated that she would make it to the end or at least to the top three.
Unfortunately for Caridi, she couldn’t keep up her act, and her true colors soon began to shine through. Viewers across America quickly recognized her pompous, aggressive and manipulative qualities.
Higgins, on the other hand, waited six long weeks to send Caridi home. Many of the other contestants felt prompted to explain Caridi’s insincerity to Higgins. They felt they saw a side of her that he didn’t see.
She instigated fights, taunted the other women and is now being accused of participating on “The Bachelor” for the wrong reasons. Caridi quit her job as a television reporter to come on the show, and many speculate she is hoping to elevate her career with her newfound “fame.”
On the Jan. 18 episode, Higgins revealed that two of his family friends died in a plane crash the night before. The contestants were compassionate and empathized with him and his loss — all but Caridi.
While Higgins was mourning his friends, Caridi was more concerned with her cankles. She whined about her fat ankles and toes and even teared up. Higgins was too sweet to make the extent of his bewilderment known, but he did say Caridi’s ankles were not exactly what he wanted to talk about.
One of the contestants, Amanda Stanton, has two children back home. Higgins was understanding and even made hair barrettes for Stanton’s girls. Caridi, though, compared Stanton to “Teen Mom.”
When confronted about the attack, Caridi didn’t appear to be remorseful. She failed to realize she had said anything wrong, showing just how vindictive she can be.
Four episodes remain before the March 14 season finale. Hopefully bachelor Higgins will give the rose to the right woman and not a vindictive, show ruining one like Caridi.
