LSU sophomore right-handed pitcher Alex Lange and 2016 Tiger pitching commit Riley Pint have been named to the 2016 Golden Spikes Award watch list, USABaseball.com announced Tuesday.
The 50-player watch list is made up high school players and collegiate players at all levels. Lange is one of 11 players from the Southeastern Conference on the list, while Pint is one of only two prep stars.
Lange, coming off a National Freshman Pitcher of the year season, will start on Saturday in LSU’s opening series against Cincinnati. The Lee Summit, Missouri native finished the 2015 season 12-0 with 1.97 ERA and 131 strikeouts.
As of the Jan. 26 Perfect Game rankings, the right-handed Pint is rated the No. 3 high school prospect in the class of 2016. According to his Perfect Game profile, the St. Thomas Aquinas product from Lenexa, Kansas, has a fastball that sits between 94-96 miles per hour and throw “a very good breaking ball.”
