Ed Orgeron was promoted from from interim coach to permanent head football coach of the LSU Tigers on Saturday.
“My goal is to build a championship program fast,” Orgeron said. “I understand the expectations at LSU, and I invite them because I have the same expectations for myself and my staff.”
An emotional Orgeron thanked a lot of people while at the podium.
He broke down in tears when thanking his parents.
“I’d like to thank my mom,” Orgeron said. “I’d like to thank my dad…for everything they’ve ever done. They made me the man I am today.”
Orgeron says he plans on assembling the best coaching staff in America.
He said he’s confident Dave Aranda will still be the defensive coordinator for the Tigers next season.
He also said he will look to add a big named offensive coordinator to his staff.
“We will look to recruit the best offensive coordinator in football and bring him to LSU.”
Speculation is high that the coordinator Orgeron is talking about is Lane Kiffin, Alabama’s current offensive coordinator.
Kiffin and Orgeron are friends and coached together at USC.
A report came out right before LSU’s game against Texas A&M on Thursday that the Tigers were getting ready to come to terms with Houston coach Tom Herman.
Athletics director Joe Alleva said today that Orgeron was the only candidate offered the job.
