Without dropping a single set, LSU junior Ryann Foster and senior Joana Valle Costa dominated the 2016 LSU Fall Classic.
On Saturday, Foster paired with the No. 16 Valle Costa and defeated Tulane’s Naz Karagoz and Sade Atkinson, 6-4. The duo continued their streak in the afternoon and defeated Princeton’s Caroline Joyce and Nicole Kalhorn, 6-1.
“Ryann has been the most intense and focused in her matches as I’ve ever seen her,” LSU coach Julia Sell said in a press release. “You can see her building from tournament to tournament and today was no different.”
LSU went undefeated in doubles on Saturday as Skylar Holloway paired with the No. 38 Jessica Golovin and they bested Tulane’s Elena Muller and Isabelle Entenza, 6-3. Holloway and Golovin also took down Princeton’s Gaby Pollner and Sivan Krems, 6-3.
In singles on Saturday, Foster toppled Rice’s Lindsey Hodge in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. Foster was the only Lady Tiger to win in singles on Saturday. Holloway, Golovin, and Abby Owens fared 0-3 against the Rice Owls.
The team rebounded with a 3-2 performance in singles on Sunday against in-state rival Tulane.
Foster beat Tulane’s Naz Karagoz, 6-2, 6-1, and Valle Costa outplayed Tulane’s Kyla Klier 6-1, 7-6 (4)
Golovin defeated Tulane’s Sade Atkinson 6-4, 6-4
“This was the perfect way to end the fall playing in a dual match format,” Sell said. “We progressed with each match which is exactly what we wanted to see.”
With LSU’s fall season now completed, the Tigers look to spring where they await the arrival of two blue chip recruits, Jade Lewis and Raveena Kingsley.
