Fall Break kicks off tomorrow, putting classes on hold until Monday.
Many students will either head back home for some family time or go on a mini-vacation to the beach, Austin City Limits Music Festival or Disney World. But for those students planning to stay in Baton Rouge, here are some ideas on how to spend your time during fall break.
Wednesday
Check out country band LANco, a group of five friends with a distinct style and sound. The band will perform at the Varsity Theatre, along with special guest Caleb Paul. Tickets range from $10-12. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show starts at 8.
Bogie’s Bar has free drinks until 10 p.m. with no cover charge after 10 for those 21 years and older.
Thursday
Head to the Baton Rouge River Center for preferred shopping from 9 a.m. until noon and general shopping from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., in conjunction with the Hollydays market. The event features merchants from across the country selling items from all categories — art, bath and beauty, jewelry, food, apparel and more.
Those in attendance will “shop for a cause” and support the Junior League of Baton Rouge’s outreach to organizations including Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital, LSU Agricultural Center, Susan G. Komen Baton Rouge and Baranco-Clark YMCA. The event continues throughout the weekend and ends Saturday.
Friday
Mike’s in Tigerland has a $10 cover charge and an open bar from 8-10 p.m. Later in the night, the bar will offer drink specials, including $1 beers and $3 daiquiris.
Back in Black, an AC/DC tribute band, will perform at Lava Cantina at 10 p.m. Those interested in attending can purchase a table which fits four people ranging from $40-55. Purchasing a table serves as a ticket, as there are no individual seats available.
Saturday
The 2016 Baton Rouge Mini Maker Faire will be held from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the East Baton Rouge Parish Main Library at Goodwood. There will be musical performances, food trucks, informational workshops and, of course, makers who produce various types of goods, including artwork, apparel and even mustache wax.
“Mythbusters’” Jamie Hyneman will host a question and answer session at the faire at 1 p.m.
For those feeling festive, head to Burden Museum & Gardens for their hay maze. The maze opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. Admission is $10, and there will be giant sling shots, a hay mountain, a petting zoo, hayrides and concessions.
Sunday
While it might still be a hot outside, take some time to relax and enjoy some of the beautiful fall weather we’re having.
Take your dog to Raising Cane’s Dog Park at City-Brooks Community Park near campus. A lazy Sunday afternoon might be a nice time to get some exercise for both you and your pet.
BREC is hosting games of pickleball, a paddle sport similar to badminton, at Cedar Ridge Avenue Park from 5-9 p.m. The cost to play is $5 per month.
