LSU missed its chance to make the SEC Tournament after a tie against Alabama last Sunday. Additionally, on Thursday, the Tigers dropped their match versus Arkansas, 2-0, which has a spot in the league tournament.
The Razorbacks opened scoring in the 13th minute with senior midfielder Claire Kelley netting a 25-yard free kick. The Razorbacks would not take long to score again when in the 30th minute freshman midfielder Kayla McKeon scored a corner kick from senior forward Alexandra Fischer, ending all the scoring in the game.
“The free kick was just really well taken free kick for their first goal and then Arkansas is just good on set pieces,” LSU coach Brian Lee said.
The Tigers didn’t net a goal in the regular season finale.
The two teams combined 18 fouls in the second half alone. The Tigers accounted for 12 fouls with three initiating ejections of players.
Junior midfielder Debbie Hahn would be ejected first, in the 70th minute. Sophomore midfielder Alex Thomas would get ejected next in the 75th minute. Sophomore midfielder Christyna Pitre would be ejected last, in the 84th minute, when she seemed to get all ball on a slide tackle that the referee saw as illegal.
“No, you know, I don’t remember the last time we’ve had a player get a red, let alone three. You try and control what you control,” Lee said. “Players got to play you hope fortune falls your way on calls. You can’t control everything about the game.”
