In a new season without Ben Simmons, Tim Quarterman and Keith Hornsby, LSU men’s basketball will be another man short for the time being.
Junior-college transfer Branden Jenkins underwent knee surgery for a torn meniscus roughly one month ago and will return to physical activity in December, multiple sources told The Daily Reveille.
Jenkins was seen on crutches in September after his injury was discovered to require surgery in LSU’s mid-to-late August team physicals, LSU coach Johnny Jones confirmed.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard was expected to compete for playing time alongside sophomore guards Antonio Blakeney, Brandon Sampson, junior Jalyn Patterson and freshmen Kieran Hayward and Skylar Mays.
During his 2015-16 season at Lee College, Jenkins, a Proviso East High School alumnus near the Chicago area, averaged 15.6 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and added 50 steals.
LSU, which finished 19-14 last season and declined a bid to the National Invitation Tournament in March, begins its regular season practices on Wednesday.
