In hopes of finding some cuddly canines a home, Friends of the Animals Shelter hosted its second annual Bark’N BBQ on Sunday. Fighting for the chance to win a secret grand prize, vendors put their best recipes forward, though Kay-rean, a Korean barbecue vendor, was ultimately crowned victor.
Channeling their inner food critic, guests at the cooking competition were given a ticket upon arrival, which they used to cast a vote for the best vendor. With more than seven vendors participating and a diverse food selection, the decision proved intense for event-goers.
Local bar and restaurant Barcadia flew into the competition with their chicken wings dipped in their house barbecue sauce, setting the bar high for the competition. Alongside Barcadia, Whole Foods Market also made an lasting impression on the crowd.
Whole Foods catered guests with grilled pears topped with honey, pecans, bits of pork and bruschetta cheese. The unexpected explosion of flavors left taste testers wanting seconds.
Serving a line encircling the perimeter of the park, Your Mom’s offered a burger garnished in toppings including cheese, fresh onion rings, barbecue sauce and coleslaw.
Though most of the vendors were there for the competition, they all expressed more passion toward the cause.
While attendees came out for the barbecued foods, they stayed for the puppies. Friends of the Animals brought out puppies to enjoy the festivities, providing opportunities for the guests to give the puppies a new home.
