LSU President F. King Alexander sent out a broadcast email Sunday afternoon, asking the LSU community to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity on campus to LSUPD.
“Although the shootings occurred some distance from campus, LSU is taking precautionary measures to ensure the continued safety of our LSU campus community,” the email said. “Our Emergency Operations Center has been activated to assist the LSU Police, who have been called upon to support local law enforcement. The LSU Police are also taking steps to increase security around the campus.”
LSU Media Relations director Ernie Ballard added that LSUPD has increased its patrols and the frequency of the patrols on campus.
Gov. John Bel Edwards expressed his feelings through a statement posted to his social media accounts.
“This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing,” the governor’s statement said. “Rest assured, every resource available to the State of Louisiana will be used to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice. For now, I’m asking all Louisianans to join Donna and me in praying for the officers who were involved and their families as the details continue to unfold.”
