LSU interim head coach Ed Orgeron continues to make changes.
On his debut, “The Ed Orgeron Show” on 98.1 FM, the Larose native said he’s cut down practice time this week for LSU. Orgeron said LSU has run roughly 30 plays in practice, compared to 80 plays the Tigers would normally practice under Miles.
“We’ve run fewer plays in practice,” Orgeron said. “Our guys are going to be fresh when we play.”
To keep morale high on the team, Orgeron plans to have motivational speakers talk to LSU every week.
“Motivation is key,” Orgeron said. “We’re going to do it every week if we can.”
For now, there won’t be a quarterback controversy in Orgeron’s first week as head coach as he gave nod to junior quarterback Danny Etling to start against Missouri on Saturday.
But he left the door open for junior quarterback Brandon Harris to play again.
“I don’t think he’s become the quarterback he expected, but we will give him a chance,” Orgeron said.
Although drastic changes on offense in just a few days are ambitious for Orgeron, he plans to “loosen” up the offense on Saturday.
Orgeron cited certain philosophies and offensive schemes he’s bringing to LSU from the University of Southern California when he was a defensive line coach there from 1998-2004 and 2010-13.
“I really liked the offense that we ran at USC, we won championships,” Orgeron said. “We started throwing the football to loosen the defense”
