The Beyhive gathered in “formation” last night for the New Orleans stop on Beyonce’s world tour. Though the Crescent City did not make the list of tour stops originally released, the concert came to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome Saturday at 7 p.m.
As the Grammy award-winning singer tours for her sixth and most recent solo album “Lemonade,” released April 23, she officially solidified and satisfied her Louisiana fan base.
DJ Khaled opened up for the superstar as he did for her on the other tour stops. Waiting for the singer to arrive, he pumped up the crowd by sampling songs from different artists.
However, unlike past shows, Khaled did not bring any celebrities on stage with him to perform.
Fans were astonished when Beyoncé opened the concert by bringing out New Orleans’ Big Freedia to perform her introduction for the song “Formation.”
Beyoncé, who said she has been looking forward to the New Orleans concert, performed several of her new songs, including hit singles “Sorry,” “Hold Up” and “All Night.”
The singer also performed some old favorites like “Diva,” “Ring the Alarm” and “Crazy in Love.” With fluid transitions between her songs, Beyoncé often used other beats to lead into her next song.
Continuously walking up and down the thrust stage, Beyoncé interacted with some lucky fans seated at a special section on the side of the stage. Fans never missed a beat as they sang along to all her songs.
Beyoncé appeared impressed with the starstruck crowd as everyone sang along to her song “Love on Top.” When she belted “Me, Myself and I,” she offered some inspirational advice to the audience.
“The most important relationship you can have is with yourself,” she said.
Beyoncé changed costumes several times. One of her costumes resembled a Michael Jackson suit.
The costumes typically reflected the songs she performed. For instance, she wore a beautiful tight red latex leotard for most of her love songs.
During one of her costume changes, the stage lights turned purple and Prince’s “Purple Rain” played on the surround sound in honor of the late musical artist.
Though fans usually expect Beyoncé to have amazing choreography, the singer outdid herself when she performed her song “Freedom” while dancing on water.
After a lovely performance of her song “Halo,” the concert came to a close. The singer’s next stop is Sept. 26 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
