As Perkins Rowe prepares for its Arts Festival this weekend, potential attendees can expect a variety of entertainment, live music, art and shopping.
Sponsored by Perkins Rowe and the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, the festival will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.
The arts market will feature nearly 40 artists exhibiting their crafts, canvases, jewelry and more, said event spokesperson Paula Biggs.
“There is something for everybody,” said freshman Jenny Wilson, who is excited to attend the festival with her 6-year-old sister.
The festival will include various activities geared toward children, such as face painting, stilt walking, carnival games, balloon twisters and a pumpkin-decorating booth. The children’s activities will take place in Magnolia Park.
Aside from the art vendors and stores in Perkins Rowe, adult festival-goers can also enjoy live performances from local bands.
On Saturday, from noon to 3 p.m., Baton Rouge-based band Carbon Copy will take the stage. Then, the Cam Pyle Band will perform for the rest of the evening,
The Baton Rouge Music Studio will open the festival Sunday with a number of bands in rotation during the three-hour set. Later that day, Partly Cloudy will perform until the festival’s end.
With restaurants such as California Pizza Kitchen and Voodoo BBQ located in Perkins Rowe, it wasn’t necessary to bring in food vendors, Biggs said. However, Rock N’ Pops, Perkins Rowe’s popsicle shop, will make an appearance near Magnolia Park to help attendees stay cool.
“It’s such a fun event,” said business sophomore Sarah Clark. “[It’s] nice to get out [of] the house and enjoy a day of art, music and, of course, shopping.”
