After a much-anticipated wait, on Friday, New Orleans Voodoo Music + Arts Experience producers released the day-by-day for the 2016 festival, which comes to New Orleans Oct. 28. The musical gumbo will serve up a variety of musical performances and showcase New Orleans culture and cuisine.
The gates will open at noon each day on the festival grounds of City Park during the Halloween weekend.
The likes of Grammy-nominated The Weeknd, Loyola graduate G-Eazy and Baton Rouge’s own Kevin Gates are set to start off the festival Friday, Oct. 28. Artists like Tool, Melanie Martinez and DJ Mustard will follow up Saturday.
Anderson .Pakk and the Free Nationals, 4B and The Chainsmokers, along with other musicians, will close out Voodoo Fest Sunday.
The Weeknd, G-Eazy and Gates will kick off the weekend with a hip-hop flare. Though The Weeknd is a rhythm and blues artist, his music tends to incorporate hip-hop, and sometimes pop, influences.
In 2011, G-Eazy graduated from Loyola, where he found his sound and voice, according to fox8live.com. The rapper makes music that many can relate to.
The best way to understand Gates is to listen to his music. Though he released his first mixtape in 2007, he began to gain popularity after his release from prison in 2011.
Tool has been around for more than two decades, releasing their first album, Opiate in 1992. As the rock band defies conventional forms of genre classification, most would consider them a progressive metal band, which is a subgenre of heavy metal.
After she was eliminated from the singing competition show “The Voice,” Melanie Martinez began her career as an independent artist. Martinez is considered an electro-pop, indie rock and alternative rock singer.
DJ Mustard previously worked with G-Eazy on the song “In the Meantime” from G-Eazy’s sophomore album “When It’s Dark Out.” Along with disc jockeying, Mustard also produces and writes songs.
.Paak belonged to the 2016 Freshmen XXL Class, which consists of the year’s hip-hop artists to watch. He will perform with his band, The Free Nationals.
4B is a 23-year-old producer and DJ from New Jersey. DJ Snake, Diplo and Steve Aoki coin him as one of the most exciting new artists in dance music.
Since The Chainsmokers’ 2012 debut, they have ruled the 2016 Billboard Hot 100 list with their song, “Closer.”
Single-day tickets cost $70 each while 3-day tickets cost $155 apiece. Prices are expected to go up at a later date.
