LSU added a third-consecutive road win, 1-0, against Bowling Green on Thursday, adding to its longest away-from-home winning streak since the fall of 2013
The Tigers knocked their two-game winning streak to three against Western Kentucky University (3-3-0), who looked to push their winning streak to three as well.
After an early sixth-minute goal off the head of junior forward Delaney Sheehan via a corner kick from freshman defender Marlena Cutura, LSU didn’t let the Hilltoppers equalize the score.
“It was definitely our goal to come out and get a goal early in the game, but I don’t think we accomplished necessarily our goal the rest of the game to stay on them and get a second or third goal,” Sheehan said in a press release. “It was definitely a struggle, but everyone, even though it wasn’t our best performance at all, we worked to not let them get in the back of the net the rest of the game.
The Tigers squandered opportunities to push the lead to more than one goal.
Junior midfielder Debbie Hahn pushed a free kick barely over the crossbar with ten minutes left to play in the first half.
Western Kentucky came out with added aggression in the second half seeking the equalizer. The Hilltoppers had no success against LSU’s back four with sophomore goalie Caroline Brockmeier saving multiple Western Kentucky attempts.
The Tiger wrap up their four-match road trip on Sunday at 6 p.m. against No. 11 Texas A&M in their SEC opener. The match will be nationally televised on the SEC Network.
