LSU’s new Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda debuted his 3-4 defense Saturday in Green Bay.
Despite the team’s loss to Wisconsin, the defensive played inspired.
“Our defense, I thought they were a tremendous spot for us,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “I thought we played extremely well for our first game, and everyone can recognize that’s going to be a great defense.”
Senior Tre’Davious White especially helped the defense with their success.
White was targeted eight time and allowed only three catches for 20 yards.
His pick six on Wisconsin Quarterback Bart Houston gave the Tigers the lead in the third quarter.
“I wanted to match up against their best receiver,” White said. “I saw within the set that I could kind of eliminate some routes. And I guess I guessed right.”
White would still prefer a Tiger’s win over his own personal success.
“I really don’t care about how I did. It’s all about the team, so I really don’t care about any of the individual things.”
The question remaining is if Aranda’s defense can hold up if the offense continues to struggle.
Junior Safety Jamal Adams said its the defense’s job to step-up and play great when the offense is down.
“That’s what we’re called on to do,” Adams said. “We just have to go out there and be ready to compete. It doesn’t matter what the situation is. We have to go out there and make sure the offense doesn’t score points.”
