LSU coach Les Miles hears the cries from Tiger faithful for a “change” on offense.
“We understand the situation that we’re in,” Miles said at an evening press conference. “We understand the fan base wants change. We all want change.”
The Tigers return to Tiger Stadium to play Jacksonville State at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday for the first time since Miles was carried off the field in LSU’s 19-7 win against Texas A&M.
During his weekly radio show at local restaurant T.J. Ribs, Miles fielded calls about “opening up” the offense.
“We like to see some more spread sets,” Miles said. “But we’re productive in some of the more traditional sets as well.”
Harris taking “onus” from the team’s defeat
After LSU’s 16-14 defeat to then-unranked Wisconsin, Miles his team isn’t pointing fingers at each other.
But junior quarterback Brandon Harris, who was 12-for-21 passing for 131 yards, is taking some responsibility from the defeat, Miles said.
“He feels a little bit of onus on him,” he said. “He’s approaching it right. I think he’s fine and looking forward to play and in a position to play better.”
Smith, Herron, Anderson eligible to play Saturday
Junior defensive linemen Frank Herron, freshman wide receiver Dee Anderson and freshman cornerback Saivion Smith missed the Tigers trip to Lambeau.
Miles described their absence as violating team rules and said the trio will be available to play this weekend.
“Frank Herron will enter the lineup this week,” Miles said. “That will be a real addition. I expect the defense to continue to get better.”
Miles declines to say if Fournette practice
Junior running back Leonard Fournette should be healthy and ready to play on Saturday, Miles said.
Fournette suffered a leg injury in LSU’s last drive against Wisconsin and had to be helped off the field.
But Miles declined to say if his tailback practiced on Wednesday and did say that Fournette’s ankle is “good.”
