“Shall we look at the moon
My little loon
Why do you cry?
Make the most of your life
While it is rife, while it is light”
Detroit-born artist Sufjan Stevens, whose career spans over the past 16 years, has an extensive, intimate discography that delves into a range of different genres. From his early start, releasing his first album ‘A Sun Came’ in 2000 to his most recent album, ‘Carrie and Lowell,’ released in early 2015, Sufjan has used his music to vividly recount many of his childhood memories and life experiences. Much of his music alludes to pieces of his personal life, and through his deeply visceral writing and his ability to capture his emotions in his instrumentals, the listener can easily flow into a piece of his mind. Moreso than nearly any modern artist I listen to, Sufjan opens up about his personal life in a way that doesn’t seem forced and is cathartic for both artist and listener.
Join me, Prismo, for my Sufjan edition of the Magical Mystery Tour. I’m going to bring my listeners through a musical timeline of this amazing musician’s life over the past 16 years, playing my favorite songs from his discography in chronological order. His music has been a source of artistic inspiration for me over the years, and I hope listeners feel equally enticed by his descriptive wordplay and melodious voice.
