The No. 20 LSU women’s swimming and diving team started off strong in the first day of its quad meet against the University of Houston, Rice University and Tulane at the University of Houston Recreation Center on Friday.
The Lady Tigers (9-1, 2-1 Southeastern Conference) began the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay and capped it with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
In between the relays, senior swimmers Megan Cox, Danielle Stirrat and Taryn MacKenzie and junior swimmers Leah Troskot and Colleen O’Neil each had victories in individual events for LSU. On the day, The Lady Tigers won seven of the ten events.
“I think we did a great job of digging into the meet today,” said swimming coach Dave Geyer in a news release. “I think there were areas where we could have prepared better, but as a whole there was some quality racing today. Without a doubt we will be sharper tomorrow.”
LSU leads Tulane (139-47), Rice (144-39) and Houston (111-75) with half of the competition over. This meet is the last competition for the Lady Tigers before the SEC championship.
The Lady Tigers close out the meet on Saturday at 10 a.m.
