Since I began my collegiate career here at LSU, I knew I wanted to get involved in college (student) radio. At first, my main interest was based on the idea of how cool and groovy it would be to be on the radio; to be one of the cool “disc jockeys” I had heard whenever I tuned my radio to 91.1 KLSU FM. After my first year at LSU and within the School of Music here, I found, in my eyes, a better reason why I wanted to become a DJ at KLSU, to spread the music that I had dedicated much of my undergraduate life studying: Classical music. Thus, the inspiration for KLSU’s Classical Music show, The Pit, was born.
The Pit serves as an outlet to promote not only the beauty that is classical music but also local classical musicians, composers and LSU’s very own School of Music. Classical music is as diverse as it is old and the same can be said about the classical music culture here at LSU, in Baton Rouge and in Louisiana. Through “The Pit”, I hope to expose the beautiful and interesting history of classical music, present the works of the latest upcoming composers and most importantly, provide a place where local classical musicians and composers can come and spread their art, talent and music to the world. Please, take your seats. Yours truly, Da Maestro, is ready to begin.
