The LSU gymnastics team’s upset of then-No.1 University of Oklahoma earned the Lady Tigers a near sweep of the Southeastern Conference weekly awards announced by the conference Tuesday.
While sophomore Myia Hambrick’s tremendous 39.450 point all-around performance resulted in her first SEC Gymnast of the Week award, the contributions of junior Shae Zamardi and freshman Sarah Finnegan did not go unseen either, as they were named the SEC Specialist of the Week and Freshman of the Week, respectively.
After Finnegan tied the team’s highest score on bars with a 9.85, the freshman continued turning heads with a 9.925 on beam – the highest score in an LSU gymnast’s first career beam routine in school history.
Zamardi earned her award with her bars and floor performance. Although the home opener marked her first floor exhibition since her freshman year, score of 9.925 helped securing LSU’s victory and the No.1 spot in the nation.
