A product of the psychedelic 60’s, Pink Floyd is renowned for their whimsical, weird and entrancing music with timeless boundaries. The progressive rock band originated in the city of London in 1964. In its earliest years, Pink Floyd consisted of Syd Barrett (guitar), Roger Waters (bass), Nick Mason (percussion), and Richard Wright (keys). David Gilmour (guitar) joined in 1968, while Syd Barrett departed soon after due to his deteriorating mental health.
Pink Floyd helped revolutionize the live experience by engaging their audience with the combined use of lights, props, projection screens and the occasional exploding airplane. Each Floyd album has a unique sound of its own yet remains true to their original essence and reoccurring themes. The band harmonizes sounds of darkness and light accompanied by philosophical, emotional, thought provoking and occasionally rebellious lyrics.
Overall, Pink Floyd created fifteen studio albums, three live albums, eight compilation albums, and four video albums. Their ability to captivate their audience and improvise for extensive lengths of time is something the rock world will never soon forget.
