Around 8:30 p.m., Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a 9-1-1 call from two workers at the LSU Student Health Center about a building fire, BRFD PIO Curt Monte said.
Fourteen minutes later, the fire was under control, and no injuries were reported, he said.
Flames originated from an office inside the SHC, and workers hear “popping noises” before exiting the building, he said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
A large area was roped off for precautionary reasons, because BRFD did not originally know what chemicals from the doctors office could be involved in the fire.
Though there is some smoke damage, there is no water damage to the SHC, Monte said.
The SHC will be closed Friday, according to LSU Media Relations. The intention is to reopen Monday. Students with scheduled appointments will get a message next week about rescheduling.
