Mother nature hasn’t been too kind to teams hoping to participate in the Baton Rouge Regional.
One day after a weather delay caused LSU and Utah Valley to be delayed for six and half hours, Game 2 of the regional had to be suspended. NCAA officials had hoped to get three games in on Saturday.
Rice and Southeastern were scheduled to play at 9 a.m. with the loser of that game playing Utah Valley at 2 p.m. Game 3 would be between LSU and the winner of Game 1 at 7 p.m.
But after six innings of play, the two teams had to leave the field because of lighting in the area, putting the game in a weather delay. Eight hours later, NCAA officials decided to suspend play until Sunday.
On Sunday, three games will be attempted, with Southeastern and Rice resuming play at 11 a.m.
Utah Valley, who lost to LSU on Friday, will play the loser of Game 1 55 minutes after it concludes. Game 3 will be between LSU and the winner of Game 2, 55 minutes after it ends.
With NCAA rules not allowing teams to play more than two games in one day, the Baton Rouge Regional will be pushed into Monday, which is only necessary if a team has not won three games after six contests have been played in the regional.
