LSU revised its policy on allowing opposing teams bands to perform at halftime and reversed its original stance Wednesday. Visiting teams’ bands will be able to perform at halftime in Tiger Stadium.
Last weekend, LSU decided to not to permit visiting teams from performing at halftime because of a “safety issue” said LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Joe Alleva.
“There are serious safety issues to consider in adopting the proper plan for on-field performances by visiting bands,” Alleva said in a press release. “When both our band and the visiting band are scheduled to perform, there’s the possibility of having over 600 additional people converging onto already crowded sidelines while the game is in progress. There are legitimate safety concerns that can affect our student-athletes, so we have developed a plan to insure a more secure environment for everyone.”
Director of Bands Damon Talley said the Tiger Band “gladly made adjustments” to its own shows to accommodate visiting bands.
“It is important that we’re able to share the field with our colleagues who want to experience the unique atmosphere that is Tiger Stadium,” Talley said in the release. “We enthusiastically support the university’s effort to make this happen.“
LSU’s home opener will be against Jacksonville State on Sept. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
