Willie Taggart, Oregon’s recently-hired head coach earlier this month, has reached out to LSU wide receivers coach Dameyune Craig for a position on his staff.
Talks between Taggart and Craig, 42, are expected to progress after the LSU’s bowl game Saturday versus No. 13 Louisville, The Advocate reported shortly after 247Sports.com’s initial report.
According to 247Sports.com’s Josh Newberg, Taggart — the former head coach at the University of South Florida — pursued Craig to be USF’s offensive coordinator, a position Oregon has yet to fill.
Once Orgeron was promoted as LSU’s interim head coach in late September, Craig was given a position raise to recruiting coordinator.
Craig, a former Auburn quarterback, signed a two-year contract with LSU, paying in $550,000 this year. Craig joined LSU’s staff in February.
In 2012, Craig was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Recruiter of the Year during his tenure at Florida State under coach Jimbo Fisher. Craig has either recruited or coached three quarterbacks, who were drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft — Jameis Winston, Christian Ponder and E.J. Manuel
