The New Orleans VooDoo lost its first game since Jan. 30 this Sunday to the Orlando Predators 63-52. The loss ended the VooDoo’s franchise record five-game winning streak. New Orleans lost the season opener at Georgia Jan. 30 46-44 but won its next five games — three of them at home — before losing to Orlando Sunday. Orlando (5-2) is the only team to defeat the VooDoo in the New Orleans Arena. The Predators used two 13-0 runs in the first half to dismantle New Orleans. In the first quarter, Predators quarterback and Offensive Player of the Game Joe Hamilton led Orlando to a 13-0 lead. The VooDoo scored at the end of the first quarter to cut the lead to 13-7. But Orlando scored 13 unanswered points to open the second quarter to jump out to a 26-7 lead. New Orleans managed to score 10 points in the second quarter and cut Orlando’s lead to 33-17 at the half. New Orleans quarterback Andy Kelly connected with Jacques Rumph for a 34-yard touchdown pass to open the second half scoring, cutting the Predators’ lead to 33-24. Hamilton answered by rushing for a touchdown and pushed Orlando’s lead back into double figures at 40-24. Kelly answered by finding Aaron Bailey for a touchdown. New Orleans kicker Brian Schmitz attempted an onside kick after the touchdown, but Orlando recovered. Hamilton found Jerrian James to push the lead to 47-31. But Bailey returned the ensuing kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown. The return was the second-longest in team history and cut Orlando’s lead to nine. The VooDoo again tried an onside kick, and New Orleans failed to recover for the second time in the third quarter. Orlando added a field goal at the end of the third quarter to lead 50-38. The VooDoo cut Orlando’s lead to just five points when Kelly found Thabiti Davis for the first score of the fourth quarter. But Hamilton did not allow New Orleans to get any closer. His next touchdown pass pushed Orlando’s lead to 57-45. After the Orlando defense stopped the VooDoo on downs, Predators running back Michael Brown rushed for a 2-yard touchdown and a 63-45 lead. Kelly finished 33 of 53 for 279 yards and five touchdowns. He also threw two interceptions. Bailey caught 11 passes for 86 yards.
