Kappa Delta sorority celebrated the St. Patrick’s Day parade Saturday by raising $2,840 for its national charity, Prevent Child Abuse America.
For its 22nd annual Shamrock Project, the sorority sold jambalaya dinners under a white tent on Perkins Road during the parade.
With chapters in 39 states, Prevent Child Abuse America sponsors programs to educate parents about how to raise and discipline their children. It also reaches out to victims of child abuse.
“I think it’s an excellent charity,” said Lindsay Brashier, a plant and soil systems junior.
All of Kappa Delta’s 125 chapters work to support Prevent Child Abuse America.
Adele Andrews, a dental hygiene junior, said members of Kappa Delta have been working all semester to make the annual fundraiser successful.
“We definitely have one of the best philanthropies of all the ones on campus,” Andrews said.
The sorority raised $2,840 by selling the jambalaya dinners at the parade.
Catherine Masterson, an English junior, said Kappa Delta ordered 1,600 dinners from Jambalaya by Shake in Prairieville to sell to businesses and at the parade.
The sorority also pre-sold 950 jambalaya dinners. That money and additional donations will be added to the funds raised Saturday during the parade.
Price LeBlanc Toyota was Kappa Delta’s biggest supporter, Masterson said.
The car dealership pre-ordered 150 dinners.
