Hundreds of bees swarmed the outside of Hill Memorial Library yesterday, drawing a crowd of students and attention from Facility Services.
“I was late for class because I just had to stop and watch,” said Bris’ Robinson, a psychology junior. “I had to walk all the way around them.”
Hugh O’Connor, a research librarian, said there are frequently bees around the building.
“The bees come and go,” O’Connor said. “I can see them outside the windows a lot.”
Facility Services arrived to look at the bees and decide what to do.
“This time of year, you see this a lot,” said Dan Rainwater, the horticulture leader with Facility Services.
Rainwater and other Facility Services staff roped off the area and said they would call an expert.
Rainwater said the bees were honey bees and were most likely following a queen bee. He said an expert needed to find the queen and remove it.
But after an hour, the bees dispersed, and the expert did not need to come.
