Career Services hosted its annual summer jobs fair yesterday in the Cotillion Ballroom.
The fair included representatives from more than 25 summer camps, including Camp Kennybrook, Camp Nakanawa, Camp Ruth Lee and Girl Scout Camp Whispering Pines.
But representatives did not just come from summer camps.
Last year, Career Services opened the event up to other businesses, said Susan Feinberg, assistant director of Career Services who coordinated the event.
“This used to be just a ‘fun summer jobs fair,’” Feinberg said.
The University has been hosting the summer jobs fair for 13 years.
“Most of the businesses come back every year,” Feinberg said.
Non-camp recruiters that attended included Southwestern Company, Louisiana Delta Service Corps, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and the Recreation and Park Commission for East Baton Rouge Parish.
Many of the students at the fair got a better idea of what they were looking for.
“I think I’ve found what I would like to do,” said Ainsley Kruebbe, a studio art sophomore.
Kruebbe said she thought working at a summer camp would be a good fit for her, but she was unsure of which one she wanted.
Brandi Young, a mass communication freshman, said she found the fair helpful.
“I really need a job this summer,” Young said. “A lot of the summer camps look really fun.”
