A University student was elected president of the state Residence Hall Association during its annual conference this past weekend.
The Louisiana Residence Hall Association held its third annual conference on campus and elected Katherine Gouner, a mass communication sophomore, as president of the organization comprised of four colleges and universities — Tulane University, Centenary College, Nicholls State University and LSU.
James Brown, the LaRHA advisor, said the organization is in “its early years” and “there is still a lot of forming to be done.” The LaRHA is encouraging Grambling University and University of Louisiana at Lafayette to join.
Brown said a major goal of LaRHA is to “build a network of resources for other colleges and universities in the area.”
Gouner said she will help lead the effort to recruit other universities and colleges. She will also push to make LaRHA known throughout the state and give more exposure to the various RHA associations in the state.
Gouner also said she will represent the state at regional and national RHA conferences.
“For [Gouner] to be elected is a stepping stone,” Brown said. “The real challenge will come from the year and being able to get things done and trying to get other schools involved.”
Gouner said she is “really excited.”
“The previous administration has done a lot of work of recruitment. I hope to facilitate more schools,” Gouner said.
