LSU hosts its sixth annual Tiger Classic this weekend to kick off the softball team’s first home games of the season.
The Lady Tigers started their season two weeks ago in Las Vegas, where they lost their season opener but came away with one win.
LSU returns home to host Grambling State University (0-10), Southern University (2-3) and Indiana (1-4) in a three-day tournament at Tiger Park.
“We are very excited to be at home this weekend to open up our 2005 schedule in Tiger Park,” said coach Yvette Girouard. “It will be nice to welcome in a Big Ten team in Indiana and our two sister schools in Southern and Grambling.”
The Tigers (1-1) kick off the weekend today against Grambling at 5:30 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, round robin play determines which teams will participate in the championship game on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
In Saturday’s continuation of round robin play, LSU will take on Indiana for its first meeting in school history at 12:15 p.m. before concluding the day with Southern at 4:45 p.m.
With the completion of round robin play, the teams will be seeded accordingly. The second and third seed will play at 9 a.m. on Sunday, followed by the top seed taking on the fourth seed at 11:15 a.m. Winners of both games will face off in the championship game at 1:30 p.m.
The Tigers are 23-6 in the six years the tournament has taken place. LSU won its last tournament title in 2001.
“It will be a fun atmosphere,” Girouard said. “We hope that everyone comes out to watch.”
