The women on the golf team saw their placement – along with the weather – fluctuate throughout the weekend at the University of North Carolina.
Despite the ups and downs, the golf team finished the tournament exactly where they started – in 12th place.
UNC hosted 18 teams this past weekend including top- ranked Duke University. Tropical Storm Tammy erupted on the North Carolina coast but did not halt the competition.
LSU took the course during the peak of Tammy, finishing the day in 12th place. Junior Nicola Eaton led the Tigers shooting 4 over par to tie for 21st overall.
The weather eased up for the second day of the Lady Tar Heel Invitational, and the Lady Tigers took advantage of it.
By the end of Saturday, LSU had jumped from 12th to 8th place. Sophomore Rebecca Kuhn took over as the leading scorer for LSU tying for 21st with a 6 over par.
In hopes of maintaining their momentum from the previous day, LSU set out again Sunday with Kuhn leading the team throughout the day.
Saturday’s rally was cut off after returning to the course Sunday for the final day of play. The Lady Tigers finished 12th overall by the end of the day.
Kuhn continued to lead the Tigers through Sunday but fell back 6 strokes to finish the tournament tied for 28th place with a 12 over par.
Duke stayed on top of the polls with another victory at the North Carolina tournament.
LSU will not compete for the next two weekends. The next tournament, the SEC/ACC Challenge, will take place Oct. 28-30 in Sandestin, Fla.
