IDENTIFICATION
The Tiger Card office, where students can get student identification cards and put Tiger Cash on their ID cards, is located in the LSU Union. Tiger Cash can be used on campus and in some restaurants and businesses off campus.
E-MAIL
New students are assigned Personal Access Web Services addresses, which allow students access to University e-mail accounts and their grades online. Students must enter their social security numbers and personal access codes on the PAWS homepage through the University Web site.
Undergraduate and graduate students can obtain a personal access code at the Office of Records and Registration in Thomas Boyd Hall.
Students who have problems with their PAWS accounts can call the LSU Computing Services Application Service Center at (225)578-0100 for more information.
TRANSPORTATION
Capital Area Transportation System provides on and off-campus shuttles. Buses run Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. All CATS transportation is free for students.

TEXTBOOKS
Students can buy new and used books at many stores such as the Union Bookstore, Chimes Textbook Exchange on Chimes Street, Co-op Bookstore on Burbank Drive and College Supply Co. on State Street.
TUTORING AND STUDYING
The Center for Academic Success offers tutoring in many courses. The times and dates for tutoring sessions are listed on the center’s Web site at http://appl003.lsu.edu/slas/cas.nsf/index.
Computer labs are open daily on campus and all have Internet access. Coates 263 is open from 7 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Middleton Library computer labs are in rooms 109, 141 and 241 and open from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The Union lab is in room 326 and open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. The CEBA lab in room 1302 is open from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The main part of Middleton Library is open Monday through Thursday from 7:15 a.m. to midnight, 7:15 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, and noon to midnight Sundays.
FITNESS
The Student Recreational Sports Complex — known as the Rec Center — is open from 5:45 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5:45 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 11 p.m. Sundays.
HEALTH
The Mental Health and Wellness staff from the Student Health Center is offering “Coping With Katrina” sessions daily through this Friday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Union Feliciana Room.
The staff also will hold sessions in the Acadian Room on Thursday. For more information, students can call (225)578-5718.
Two Student Government hotlines are available for students coping with the hurricane’s effects. The numbers are (225)578-8729 and (225)578-8728 and are open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Students can also e-mail Student Government at [email protected].
WAYS TO VOLUNTEER
Student Government is scheduling student volunteers 24 hours a day at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center and the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Students can sign up to volunteer at www.lsu.edu/volunteer, and representatives from SG will call students to assign them a specific time to volunteer.
SAFETY
The LSU Police Department’s Web site, http://appl003.lsu.edu/pubsafety/lsupolice.nsf/index, lists safety tips for students. The phone number for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office is (225)389-5000, and the Louisiana State Police hotline is 1-800-469-4828.
Some tips on the LSUPD Web site include locking doors, not leaving keys in hiding places, not letting strangers into residence halls or student housing off-campus and opening a savings or checking account instead of keeping money at home.
CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT
The Student Organization Fair will be Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Free Speech Alley. Student organizations will set up booths to recruit new members.
