Kristin Cooper could not face another day after her rape. Now, her mother uses Kristin’s misfortune to show college students how to handle tough situations without giving up hope.
“Kristin’s Story: A Story of Acquaintance Rape and Depression” is a mother’s take on her daughter’s struggle with depression and eventual suicide.
Delta Delta Delta, Kappa Delta, Lambda Chi Alpha and Sigma Nu are sponsoring a speaker Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Lod Cook Hotel Ballroom.
Andrea Cooper, Kristin’s mother, has been telling her daughter’s story for the past year with favorable reviews.
Kristin Cooper, a Baker University student and member of Alpha Chi Omega, commited suicide on New Year’s Eve 1995, after struggling with the pain of rape.
The presentation is sponsored by the Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Chi Omega foundations. It originally was scheduled in October but was postponed because of Hurricane Lili.
Sponsors are providing packets developed by the Santa Monica Rape Treatment Center for participants to take home.
