Student gripes about athletic department
I have several gripes relating to various aspects of LSU Athletics. First, I left Tiger Stadium Saturday night with a feeling in my gut I refuse to accept. It was the same feeling I left Commonwealth Stadium with the previous Saturday and Jordan Hare Stadium with a couple of weeks before — the feeling that I am giving more effort in the stands than the team is giving on the field.
We have some of the best coaches and players in the country. There is no excuse for the effort that has been put forth the last few games. I don’t know whose fault it is, but either the coaches or the players, or both the coaches and the players, need to get their collective heads out of their collective rectums and bring back another SEC Championship flag to Tiger Stadium. If I’m going to keep waking up on Sundays with a sore throat for no good reason, I’ll just stay home Saturday night and drink some Clorox.
My next complaint is with Athletics Director Skip Bertman. I e-mailed Mr. Bertman to convey my displeasure with the editing of Jim Hawthorne’s call at the end of the Kentucky game. I put a lot of thought into my e-mail, while his reply consisted of “Thanks for the e-mail … Thanks for being a Tiger fan.” Can you say “form letter?” There’s a big problem when the University’s administration is too busy to acknowledge students.
Finally, I have a class every day from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Each of the last two weeks, there has been a night I have not been allowed to park in the stadium lot, instead being told to park across the street because of a basketball exhibition game. It’s especially aggravating when I walk back to my car after class and the lot is only about a quarter full. I understand fans pay a couple of hundred dollars a season for the right to park, but I would like to think actually attending classes here counts for something.

Tiger fans need to have a little faith
This letter is in response to all the negative headlines and discussions that have taken place regarding the football team’s recent losses. Have a little faith.
The pessimism needs to end, we need to support our football team. During the past month our football team has had to overcome a lot of adversity, and it has handled it very well. We are still on top of the SEC West, we are still going to Atlanta, and we have a winning record.
Yes, it stinks to lose, but true champions know how to move on after a loss and look ahead to the next game, and we know our Tigers are true champions. So this week support your Tigers — talk about all the awesome things the team has done this season, call your friends at other SEC schools and rub it in their faces, “We are going to Atlanta,” and when you go to the Ole Miss game this weekend stay until the end.
So students get hella excited because our Tigers are awesome, we are going to win out the season and we’re going Atlanta. Geaux Tigers.
