A driving rain storm cancelled Tuesday night’s game between LSU and the Southern University Jaguars at The Bluff.
With the Tigers holding a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning, the downpour gained momentum, and the umpire called the game.
LSU head coach Smoke Laval said the game will be rescheduled at a later date.
The evening started off in grand fashion with the Southern band exciting the standing-room-only crowd that extended up the Harding Boulevard overpass parallel to the right field fence.
Before the cancellation, LSU pitcher Nate Bumstead struck out eight Jaguar batters through four innings.
“I think Bumstead did a very, very good job,” Laval said. “He threw extremely well against a great offensive ball club.”
Although the statistics in the game go uncounted, third baseman Ivan Naccarata hit a double in the top of the first inning, which would have extended his team-high hitting streak to 19 games.
The Tigers continue their eight-game road trip at 7 p.m. Friday, with a three-game weekend series in Athens, Ga., against Southeastern Conference foe, the Georgia Bulldogs.
