The LSU women’s golf team looks to be more consistent this weekend when it competes in the sixth annual Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C.
“This team hasn’t been able to play up to its potential,” said LSU head coach Karen Bahnsen. “Right now we’re just inconsistent.”
LSU comes off an 11th place finish at the Lady Gamecock Classic. The Lady Tigers shot a 32 over-par 320 in the rain-shortened, 18-hole Tournament.
Bahnsen said the most consistent golfer on the team is newcomer Vicky Meyer. The Brazil native joined the team this spring and has averaged 75.5 strokes per 18 holes. She was No. 10 on the individual leaderboard at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.
Joining Meyer in this weekend’s lineup for LSU are Brooke Shelton, Isabella Dornellas, Devon Day and Erin Sarver.
Bahnsen expects the Lady Tigers to finish in 10th place or better in an 18-team field, which includes 10 teams ranked in Golf Digest’s Top 25. Top-ranked Duke, No. 3 Auburn, No. 9 Vanderbilt and No. 10 Tennessee are just a sample of the teams competing this weekend.
The 54-hole tournament hosted by No. 20 Wake Forest and North Carolina-Greensboro tees off today at 7:30 a.m. at Bryan Park Champions Course. The teams will play three 18-hole rounds today through Sunday.
