LSU police have arrested and issued misdemeanor summons to several individuals on charges including driving while intoxicated, simple battery and trespassing.
LSUPD observed an individual driving the wrong way in the Miller Hall parking lot April 5. The individual allegedly was driving toward the police car, and the officer had to move to avoid being hit, said LSUPD Capt. Mark Shaw.
The officer stopped Rishi J. Vyas, 21, of 2214 Poplar St., Baton Rouge, and observed signs of intoxication.
Vyas refused to take a breathalyzer test and was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of DWI first offense and careless operation.
In an unrelated incident, police arrested an individual April 4 for trespassing and remaining after forbidden.
Officers allegedly observed Carlos D. Munrique, 41, staggering on the road with the possibility of walking into traffic, Shaw said.
After identifying the individual, Shaw said police realized he had been asked not to return to campus without official business.
Police arrested the individual on the above charges, and he later was released.
LSUPD assisted the Department of Parole and Probation April 2 by arresting an individual working in the Union Dining Services.
Wendell Jones, 37, of 805 W. Roosevelt St. allegedly violated his probation, and there was a warrant for his arrest.
Shaw said police contacted Parole and Probation when Jones reported to work April 2.
In another incident, police were dispatched to West Lakeshore Drive on March 28, after they received calls about an individual disturbance.
Police found David Williams, 26, of 1500 W. Esplanade, Kenner, La., near 3980 W. Lakeshore.
The individual allegedly set fire to a chair and had caused a disturbance, Shaw said. He also said the police attributed the individual’s actions to intoxication.
Shaw said the individual was issued a summons for disturbing the peace by public drunkenness and was released from custody.
In an unrelated incident March 28, police arrested an individual for simple battery.
An officer traveling northbound on Nicholson Road observed a vehicle stopped, blocking traffic in the southbound lane.
The officer also allegedly observed the individual punching a victim inside the car.
Shaw said the victim made no attempt to fight back but was trying to keep herself from being hurt.
The individual allegedly drove away but police stopped the individual and arrested him.
Luvelle E. James, 20, of 12659 Jackson Road, Zachary, La., was issued a misdemeanor summons and released.
