LSU’s Lolo Jones earned the Most Outstanding Female Performer, helping LSU post two world-leading times at the 76th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday at the University of Texas in Arlington.
The LSU women’s track and field team also earned the Most Oustanding Collegiate Team as winning four events at the meet.
Jones, who became the first Lady Tiger to earn top honors at the meet since 1994, posted a world-leading time of 12.9 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. LSU’s RaNysha LeBlanc finished the event in third place in 13.2 seconds.
The junior also helped the Lady Tigers to victories in the 4X100-meter and 4X200-meter relays. Jones ran the third leg of the 4X100-meter relay as LSU posted a world-leading time of 42.62 seconds. She also ran the second leg in the 4X200-meter relay as LSU posted a collegiate and meet record in 1:30.07.
LSU’s Muna Lee took the 100-meter dash in 10.97 seconds. She also ran the anchor leg of the 4X100-meter relay but gave all the credit to Jones.
“We took advantage of the race on our third leg,” Lee said. “My teammate ran a really good leg, and it put us ahead. It’s only our second race of the season and we didn’t know exactly how fast we could run, so we are happy with the win. This is our fastest time since we’ve been here and we are happy that we could set the meet record.”
LSU’s Mallory McDonald and Nicole Toney both had second-place finishes for the Lady Tigers in field events. McDonald took second in the hammer throw with a launch of 197-4, while Toney had a distance of 44 feet and1 1/4 inches in the triple jump.
The LSU men’s team had two top-three finishes in the running events.
Daniel Trosclair, Kelly Willie, Pete Simon and Bennie Brazell helped the Tigers to a third place finish in the 4X100-meter relay in 39.36 seconds. Robert Parham, Anthony Ewers, Brazell and Willie combined for second place in the 4X400-meter relay with a 3:29.40 mark, which was their fastest time of the outdoor season.
On the field, LSU’s John Moffit and LeJuan Simon finished first and second in the triple jump. Moffit and Simon had jumps of 54-6 1/2 and 52-4 1/2, respectively.
Traun Smith and Moffit also had second place finishes in the respective sections of the long jump. Smith finished second in section B of the event with a 24-10 1/2 jump, while Moffit finished second in section A with a 23-6 3/4 jump.
The Tigers return to action next weekend when they host the LSU Alumni Gold Invitational.
