Fresh off a weekend sweep of Southeastern Conference opponents, the Lady Tiger tennis team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., today to battle Purdue.
LSU (11-10, 3-7 SEC) defeated Mississippi State, 5-2, last Friday.
The Lady Tigers lost the doubles point to begin the match, but LSU reeled off five straight set singles victories courtesy of Rocio Fantilli, Jessica Ferguson, Daysi Espinal, Camila Caliari and Lauren Seaman to clinch the victory.
Sunday, the Lady Tigers completed the weekend sweep by defeating No. 51 Ole Miss, 4-3.
LSU won the doubles point to begin the match. Ferguson and Marina Chiarelli overcame Audra Adams and Sabrina Peppl, 8-5. Meanwhile, Caliari and Espinal triumphed against Florencia Basile and Karem Harboe, 8-5.
In singles play, the Lady Tigers needed only three victories to clinch the match. Seaman defeated Adams, 6-1, 6-4, and Chiarelli beat Basile, 6-2, 6-4. Caliari clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4, rout of Virginia Tomatis.
Purdue (8-9, 3-3 Big 10) has won three of their last four outings. Included in that winning streak is a 4-3 victory over No. 47 Ohio State, which LSU also defeated earlier this season.
“It’s going to be a really tough match,” said head coach Tony Minnis. “They’re a solid team in the Big Ten. We’ve got some momentum, and hopefully we can come away with a win.”
