The Slim Harpo Awards and the Hohner Jam Session will be at The Varsity Theatre on April 28. This annual awards show for blues musicians and fans is part of Baton Rouge’s Blues Week.
The event is put on by The Baton Rouge Blues Foundation. The awards ceremony is hosted by Raful Neal, Deacon John and Luther Kent. The masters of ceremony are Rob Payer and Maxine Crump.
The Baton Rouge Blues Foundation was created about six months ago. The Foundation was created to preserve blues culture in Louisiana, provide music lessons and help Louisiana music scholars get scholarships. The Foundation also exists to honor musicians who deserve recognition and to possibly create a music hall of fame.
Baton Rouge Blues Week is more than just the awards show. There are many events planned around town, including a number of live performances by local blues musicians at Baton Rouge’s Fest For All.
Those visiting Baton Rouge especially for the occasion can find ticket discounts from three major airlines.
The show at The Varsity is open to anyone. There is a $10 cover charge at the door. For more information, contact The Varsity at 383-7018.
