A campus administrator known for his efforts to recruit minorities to the University is leaving to become a professor at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center.
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Campus Diversity Greg Vincent will take on a new job as the Richard C. Cadwallader professor at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center beginning June 1.
Aside from his work as vice provost, Vincent also has been working as a member of the Law Center faculty for the past two years.
“I wanted to appropriately honor him by offering him this position,” said John Costonis, chancellor of the Law School.
Constonis said Vincent is well-suited for the position because he is “very aware and astute” about the needs of students and will add to the diversity of the faculty.
“In my judgment, he will do a very fine job,” said Constonis.
According to a press release, Vincent plans to continue his work with the LSU Community-University Partnership. Vincent worked to obtain a $400,000 grant from the department of Housing and Urban Development in 2002.
“CUP seeks to build upon the strengths of the community to revive an area of Baton Rouge called Old South Baton Rouge,” said Judy Bethley, coordinator for CUP.
Bethley said Vincent was with the grant from the very beginning and was effective in bringing LSU law students to help with research for the project.
Bethley said she was happy that Vincent will remain on staff at CUP.
“We need his involvement and wisdom to move the project to the next level,” Bethley said.
Since 1999, Vincent has upped the University’s efforts to recruit and retain minority faculty, staff and students. Vincent has also reorganized the Academic Center for Student Athletes, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Women’s Center.
“Working on two campuses has been both rewarding and challenging, and I am excited about being with the Law Center full time while continuing to work with the main campus on the important partnership with Old South Baton Rouge,” said Vincent in a press release. “I am truly honored to be selected for the prestigious professorship.”
