Chris Landry has been an assistant LSU football coach, a National Football League scout and a FOX radio analyst. Now Landry is the new Sport Clubs and Student Development Director for LSU Recreational Sports.
Landry, a 37-year-old native of Louisiana, was born in Donaldsonville and graduated from Ascension Catholic High School. He graduated from LSU as a broadcast journalism major and became an assistant football coach for LSU.
Landry coached under the likes of former Tiger coaches Bill Arnsparger, Mike Archer and Curley Hallman from 1987-1992. After he left the Tigers, Landry became an NFL scout for the Cleveland Browns.
Landry spent two years as a scout for the Browns. He then ran the 1994 NFL scouting combine before becoming a scout for the Houston Oilers. Landry scouted for the Houston franchise through its transition period in 1997 when the Oilers became the Tennessee Titans. He worked for the Titans until 2000.
Landry comes back to LSU after 11 years of NFL work. He is in the process of selling his home in Nashville, Tenn., and buying a home in the Baton Rouge area.
Landry, who also writes NFL scouting reports for RivalsPro.com, said that improving sports club awareness is one of his main goals.
“I hope to bring a lot of sports administrative experience to help grow the sports clubs on campus and maybe improve exposure for them,” Landry said. “Basically [I want to] try to use my background that I have in athletics to try to bring out the students involvement in the sports clubs and to create awareness among the community — particularly the LSU community.”
