While “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” will be released in about two months, the hype already has increased because of a special premiere event at 160 theaters nationwide.
Tinseltown will show all three Lord of the Rings movies on Dec. 16 -the week after finals- beginning with the extended editions of “The Fellowship of the Ring” and “The Two Towers” adequately labeled as Trilogy Tuesday.
The 13 hour event will conclude with a special early screening of “The Return of the King” hours before the normal midnight showing of the film.
There will be 30 minute intermissions between the films.
Tinseltown officials said about 100 of the 467 tickets still are available for the special event.
LOTR fans already are planning ahead for Trilogy Tuesday.
Gaye Smith, an LSU Health Care Services accountant, bought the first 10 tickets on Oct. 9 when the tickets went on sale.
She wanted to have a line party at Tinseltown for the special screenings.
Smith signed up as a line administrator and set up the line party through the Internet on TheOneRing.net.
Interested fans can sign up for the line party under “The Movies” link on the Web site and then search for parties in Baton Rouge. Once signed up for a party, members can keep in contact with each other via e-mail.
For those planning to attend Trilogy Tuesday, Smith can be contacted through TheOneRing.net as BRLOTRFAN or by emailing her at [email protected].
Smith bought tickets for herself, along with her husband, friends and coworkers.
“My boss is going to let me have the day off from work,” Smith said. “He’s going to be there with us.”
Tickets for Trilogy Tuesday are $25, cash only. For those who will not be in Baton Rouge after finals conclude, Trilogy Tuesday will take place in Shreveport at Tinseltown USA 17 and in Harahan, a suburb of New Orleans, at the AMC Palace 20.
