Austin City Limits Music Festival will make its debut this weekend. Starting Friday, Zilker Park in Austin, Texas will host the three-day music festival.
The festival is the brainchild of the Public Broadcast System music showcase “Austin City Limits.” According to the show’s Web site, “Austin City Limits” began airing in the 70’s and has featured more than 500 artists from around the world. The show is finally making its way outdoors.
The ACL Music Festival Web site lists more than 100 bands. The list includes big names like REM, Al Green, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Dwight Yoakam, Galactic, Yo La Tengo, Pat Green, Ween, Liz Phair and 10 times more.
Music is not the only attraction for the weekend. The Austin Shakespeare Festival will perform Shakespeare plays each night. The Web site describes the plays as “Saturday Night Live in Old English.”
Besides having nine performance stages there will be 43 different restaurants preparing food daily at the Taste of Austin Food Court. The food selection covers a wide spectrum of dining, from burgers to Thai food to Kettle Corn.
The Soco Art Market features hats, jewelry, photos and art pieces made by local and visiting artists.
Tickets for the festival are $75 for a three-day pass and $30 for a one-day pass. The price of a ticket is less than a dollar a band.
