The Southeastern Conference schedule started in earnest this past weekend with three games being contested within the conference.
Four other SEC teams played out of conference games, while Florida and Tennessee were idle.
Georgia 31, South Carolina 7
The Bulldogs held their end of the bargain by dominating the Gamecocks on both sides of the ball. The Georgia win now sets up a matchup between the Bulldogs and LSU, who both stand at 3-0 on the season. Georgia quarterback David Greene went 16-for-27 for 208 yards.
Auburn 45, Vanderbilt 7
The Auburn offense finally scored a touchdown after being shut out of the end zone the first two weekends against Southern Cal and Georgia Tech. The Commodores’ SEC woes continued, as Auburn quarterback Jason Campbell led the Tigers to their first victory in a so far disappointing season.
Alabama 27, Kentucky 17
After a hard fought loss at the hands of No. 1 Oklahoma last weekend, the Crimson Tide responded by taking care of the Wildcats. Alabama’s offense was clicking, totaling 465 yards, including 174 yards on 30 carries for running back Shaud Williams. The Jared Lorenzen-led Wildcat attack paled in comparison, totaling a paltry 195 yards. Crimson Tide quarterback Brodie Croyle went 14-for-27 with 198 yards passing.
Arkansas 38, Texas 28
The Razorbacks alerted the country of its potential by traveling to Austin and defeating the Longhorns in an old Southwest Conference rivalry game. In was Texas’ first home loss since 1999, Arkansas scrambling quarterback Matt Jones ran and threw for a touchdown in the game.
Tulane 31 vs. Mississippi State 28
The disappearance of the MSU football program continued, as Green Wave kicker Barrett Pepper booted a 32-yard field goal with six seconds remaining the clinch it for Tulane.
The Bulldogs led 28-14 with less than five minutes remaining, but were unable to hold of the Tulane offense, which scored 17 unanswered points.
Tulane quarterback J.P. Losman went 29-for-47 for 349 yards and four touchdowns
Ole Miss 59, Louisiana-Monroe 7
The Rebels recovered from last week’s loss to Memphis, while Eli Manning threw for 353 yards and three touchdowns. Ole Miss improved to 2-1 on the season.
