Today marks the end of March, and with it, the end of
programming and events for Women’s History Month.
Women’s Center Manager Amber Vlasnik said the support Women’s History Month received from the University was phenomenal.
“I am very pleased and excited about the attendance and responses we have gotten from our programs and events,” she said.
After viewing the Women in the Arts program last week, audience members were given evaluations to fill out about this year’s Women’s History Month celebration.
Vlasnik said a large number of these evaluations were positive.
“This year we made a few adjustments and improvements,” she said. “For instance, I think we did a better job of publicizing events this year.”
Vlasnik said the combination of midterms and campus elections made March a busy month for a lot of students, but she saw a variety of faculty, staff, students and community members at several of the events.
“We strive to have programs that appeal to everyone,” she said.
“African American women in Georgia” is the last Women’s History month event and the last Brown Bag Lunch of the semester.
The program will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the Women’s Center.
Vlasnik said the program will be led by Dr. Tiawana Simpson of the History Department.
“One of the purposes of the lunches is to give students the opportunity to the see the resources available for them and faculty members the chance to share their research,” Vlasnik said.
Norisha Kirts, a public administration graduate student, said she has enjoyed this month’s events, and it is important to continue to celebrate Women’s History Month.
“We have made great strides and advancements in issues relating to women, but we still have a long journey ahead,” she said. “It’s important we continue to highlight the achievements of women.”
